Titivators Urunga Annual Dragon Boat Regatta
6th & 7th May, 2017
Dragon Boat Regattas are a colourful and exciting event where spectators can get up close to the action and experience the thrill of dragon boats, fully dressed with heads, tails & dragon scales, racing through the water powered by an adrenalin pumped team of 20 paddlers.
The Titivators Urunga Dragon Boat Club Regatta is an important event in the Australian Dragon Boat Calendar. Teams from around the region and across Australia participate competing for trophies, preparing teams for the season ahead and giving race experience to newer paddlers. These sprint events require excellent fitness and technique.
A regatta day is full of fun and excitement. Teams usually arrive around 7.30am for official briefings, to set up and grab that all important coffee. The first races usually kick-off about 8.30am – teams would be expected at marshalling about 30 minutes before this.
The day is pretty busy – with races continuing throughout the day until the finals about 2.30pm. Dragon Boating is a high energy sport so we always provide an array of food and drink vendors to ensure spectators and participants have access to healthy options all day long.

Where is the Regatta?
Atherton River Drive, Urunga – Bellinger River Sailing Club Urunga is 20 minutes south of Coffs Harbour on the beautiful Kalang River. Note: Please do not park on the Golf Course as you will most likely be towed away!
Round The Island Race
On the Saturday afternoon we hold a 6.8 km long distance race around Hobson Island on the Bellinger and Kalang Rivers.
This is not a sanctioned race and can be made up of any members and any club combinations. Members must be registered with DBNSW and steerers must be accredited with DBNSW.
NOTE: All teams in the Round the Island Race must have a drummer.
START TIME: Boats and members should be at the starting area by 12 noon on the Saturday ready for racing with boats in the water and ALL paddlers ready for racing to commence at 1pm sharp.
COST: $10.00 per adult and $5.00 per junior
A Community Event
Our regatta is also an opportunity to involve the community and offer local organisations, businesses and the general community a chance to participate in team building and to try out the sport of Dragon Boat Racing. Teams often dress up to compete for a best-dressed award – anything goes really – the crazier the better! We encourage all members of the local community to submit a team. Organisations like Coffs Harbour Shire Council, Coffs Harbour Cex, Coffs Harbour Base hospital, local gyms and sporting clubs are among some of the teams that have entered in the past. We donate the time of our coaches to train the community teams in the weeks prior to the events. All coaching time, boats, paddles and necessary equipment is offered free of charge by the club to encourage participation and ensure the best possible experience..
Community Team Information
A Community Team consists of a maximum of 20 paddlers entered by a community or business organisation for the purpose of team building. The Sweep and drummer are provided by the organising Club.
Restrictions: paddlers must be over 12 years of age or 12-18 years of age for juniors, minimum of 16 paddlers and max 10 male paddlers in any crew
Cost: $20 per person or $10 per person for schools or junior teams (includes $5.00 per person insurance)
Compulsory training sessions are provided free of charge by the club.

Regatta Categories for 200 metre Sprints
1. Sports Mixed Crew: Minimum of 2 male paddlers to a maximum of 10 paddlers (excludes drummer and steere) Drummer and Steerer can be either gender.
2. Sports Womens Crews: All female paddlers (including drummer and steerer)
3. Sports Men (10’s): Must have all male paddlers (drummer and steerer can be either gender)
4. Sports Juniors/Youth (10’s): All paddlers and drummer must be aged 12-23 years (steerer can be over 18 years) Further details available on the Entry Form or by calling Lois on 02 6655 1264 or Kath 0418 728 194.
Club Team Entry
Set-up & Program of Events
Each club and community team will be allocated ample space for a team shelter. Please bring chairs, shade tents, sunscreen, insect repellent, water etc to make your teams comfortable for the day. Teams are advised to be ready and set-up in their assigned areas by 7.30am ready for Team Registration.

Food and drink vendors will be available on the Sunday only – please bring ample food and water for Saturday.
